Study at UdeM

Steps to follow

Here are the steps to follow in order to be able to study at UdeM as an international student. Please note that the order of these steps cannot be reversed.

1- Applying for an admission
You must first choose the program or programs you are interested in. Once the admission application is sent, you must receive the official admission letter before applying for a CAQ (on your Centre étudiant). You should count two or three months (may vary depending on the location) before classes start to complete the immigration applications

2- Applying for a Quebec Certificate of Acceptance - Certificat d'Acceptation du Quebec (CAQ)
You must obtain a CAQ in order to obtain a study permit from the Canadian government.

3- Applying for a study permit
The study permit must be obtained before you arrive on Canadian territory (at the closest Canadian visa office - Bureau canadien des visas). Citizens of certain countries must also apply for a visa to enter the territory at the Canadian visa office where the study permit application is being treated.

4- Arriving in Montreal
On the website, a list of places is suggested for your stay upon arrival but you may also find other accommodations on your own. The campus dorms offer rooms for rent. Places are limited; you must apply through the Résidences. In addition, the Off-campus housing office- Bureau du logement hors campus can help you find housing.
It is suggested you arrive in Montreal at least two weeks prior to the beginning of classes in order to get settled in and familiarize yourself with your new environment.

5- Reporting to the BEI
The BEI must keep a record of all the international students wish included the authorizations of stay necessary to study in Quebec (a copy of the immigration documents will be made). Upon your arrival, welcoming and information workshops are offered (non mandatory but strongly suggested)

6- Completing your registration
You must go to your department in order to complete your registration for your choice of courses.

We are pleased to welcome you to the UdeM !
